STAINING METHOD

The method of choice in the staining of cytological smears in hematology is the panoptic method of Pappenheim. Pappenheim using May-Grünwald and Giemsa solutions usually stains blood smears.
By using these solutions, an exceedingly good harmony in staining of all parts of the blood cells is obtained.
The described morphological characteristics of cells in other sections of this manual relate to Pappenheim staining.

In the stained blood smears morphological and other alterations on all forms of cells are observed and recorded. At the same time the percentages of individual morphological forms of leukocytes are established and present the differential white-cell count.
