THROMBOPOIETIN

There is a continuous dynamic balance between the thrombocytopoietic pool on the one hand and the functional pool on the other. Numerous experiments have shown that there is a plasmatic factor that regulates the thrombocyte production (termed thrombopoietin). This humoral factor is inactivated by healthy thrombocytes and is a part of the thrombopoietic feedback mechanism. Thrombopoietin functions at the level of megakaryoblast.
