The maturation of the cells of erythrocytic line normally happens in the bone marrow. Only mature erythrocytes pass into the peripheral blood.
Morphological disturbances of erythrocytes in the peripheral blood may be of different types:
- alterations in the coloration,
- alterations in the size,
- alterations in the shape,
- erythrocytes with nuclear remnants, and
- inclusion bodies in erythrocytes.
