POLYCHROMATOPHILIC ERYTHROBLAST

Description:

Also morphologically recognizable as definitely belonging to the erythroid series. It is oval or round.

Size:

8-12 µm

Cytoplasm:

Shows a polychromatic staining reaction, i.e., staining by both basic and acid stains, giving a purple tint which becomes more acidophilic as the cell matures, due to the hemoglobin appearance.

Nucleus:

Occupies a relatively smaller part of the total and decreases in size as the cell ages; it stains darkly and the chromatin is arranged in clumps. It is in central or slightly eccentric position.

Nucleoli

Not visible.
