PROERYTHROBLAST

Description:

The earliest recognizable cell of the erythrocytic series. It is a large oval or round cell.

Size:

15 -20 µm

Cytoplasm:

Dark blue with a pale perinuclear halo. Immature proerythroblast does not have hemoglobin in the cytoplasm. The synthesis of hemoglobin begins round the nucleus. The cytoplasm is stained gray-blue.

Nucleus:

Relatively large, with a network of chromatin strands. After the synthesis of hemoglobin begins, the chromatin of the nucleus becomes clumped.

Nucleoli

1-5 small nucleoli can easily be seen.
