Lymph nodes without a capsule and diffuse lymphatic infiltrates in direct contact with epithelia of intestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts make the mucosal immunologic system.
This lymphatic tissue consists of accumulations of lymphocytes within the reticular net located just under the epithelium of the small intestine, appendix, large intestine, bronchia, mucous channels, mucous glands, and lactic glands.
They are different from lymph nodes because they have no capsule, afferent lymphatic channels, or medulla containing cords and plasma cells. |
