Mesencephalon

The mesencephalon undergoes lesser changes than any other part of the developing brain. The neural canal narrows to form the cerebral aqueduct. Neuroblasts migrate from the alar plates and agregate to form large groups of neurons. The basal plates give rise to the neurons in the tegmentum.
